North Laine
A Dickensian bustle of criss-cross streets tucked between the station and the Royal Pavilion, Brighton's North Laine has to be seen to be believed. Half a square mile that is home to over 320 shops, 25 cafés, 15 pubs and 4 theatres. A real mix of the ethnic, offbeat and downright funky. Here you can find everything from 50s kitsch to millennial fashions, widgets and wool to Art Deco and Nepalese slippers.
Browse for bargains in the weekend flea markets or bric-à-brac shops. If it's fashion you're after, you'll find everything from up and coming designers to 80s retro, from white tuxedos to vegetarian shoes. Great for foodies too, there's a specialist cheese shop, organic health food stores, handmade fudge shop and Chinese supermarket with a noodle bar above. And when it all gets too much, chill out in one of the tiny bars or cafés where you can people-watch for free.
